It seems very commonplace in today’s world to paste the word “consultant” on the end of a business name. The business may be made up of one or two key people that are experts in a field supported by a team of some number or it could be just one person. The statement is just a generic observation which is a fancy way of saying that it comes from me and to an extent, I know what I am talking about because this is what I have done. Global Aircraft Consulting is the name of my company. The entity is not big as far as numbers of soles in the office but my team composition is made up of a network of people in the field that I regard as experts on the subject at hand.

It might be appropriate at this point to throw in a definition of a consultant. Webster says “a person who provides expert advice professionally.” I like it! Is it true?   I hope so! To answer that you would have to gauge the honor and along with that comes the integrity of the consultant. Do too many people paste the name of consultant on their name? Maybe. I saw a graph when I was trying to define myself that showed the number of times that consultant was mentioned. Check this out!

I’m not sure how they accumulated data on this graph but the consultant’s popularity grew very fast from 1940 to the year 2000. Why did this happen? It may have been a cliché or term used by people that couldn’t find a job doing anything else. I hope it was maybe caused by people striving to make a difference in a particular field of excellence. I’m sure its a mixture of both phenomena.

How smart is the average person that has a consultant in the name of their organization? I’m not going to go there because what difference does it make? I think its extremely important however to at least have a foundation based on time for the subject matter you represent! You can hang any sign on any door but if behind the door doesn’t represent the sign in a professional manner, what good is the sign or the door for that matter.

I’ve always heard that if you hang around smart people that you will be a smarter person. I googled smart quotes from smart people and some of my favorites jumped out at me. For instance: “Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose. Bill Gates”. “Whatever you do in life, surround yourself with smart people who’ll argue with you. John Wooden” . John Wooden also said, “Talent is God given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful. John Wooden” Bert Routan whom I consider an expert in aviation in a slightly different way said, “Usually the wacky people have the breakthroughs. The ‘smart’ people don’t. Burt Rutan”.

So what does all of this have to do with Global Aircraft Consulting. Everything because this is whom we strive to be in the aviation community! All the glory goes to God so we, as a company, strive to honor the talent He has given, thankful for the questions that arise and, if any, the success that is received. I sincerely appreciate the time you have spent with these thoughts. Hope you have an incredible day!

Thank you,
